Emotion Code guide

How many Emotion Code sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number, and nobody can honestly tell you in advance how many sessions will make a difference. Here is what Discover Healing and practitioners say, and a sensible way to decide for yourself.

How many sessions do people usually have?

It varies widely. Some people try a single session out of curiosity. Others book a short series, often three to six sessions, and some continue for months. There is no standard course, because in the Emotion Code what to work on, and when a session ends, is decided by muscle testing rather than by an outside measure.

That also means no one can promise a result after a particular number of sessions. The method's central idea, that trapped emotional energy can be found and released, is not established by scientific evidence, so there is no research to say how many sessions would be enough, or whether any number would do what the method describes. What follows is what the method and its practitioners say, attributed to them.

What does Discover Healing say?

Discover Healing, the company that teaches and certifies the method, gives a few reference points.

  • Per session: its articles say a practitioner can typically identify and release five to ten trapped emotions in a twenty-minute session, and sometimes only two or three, because in the method's terms the body decides how much it is ready to release.
  • Between sessions: it says the body may need a few days to process after a session, and suggests practitioners muscle test to estimate how long before the next one.
  • Heart-Wall: its certification requirements say that clearing what the method calls a Heart-Wall typically takes two to four sessions with one person. Our page on the Heart-Wall explains the idea.
  • Packages: its staff practitioners sell a single twenty-minute phone session, a Heart-Wall series of three twenty-minute sessions and a ten-session pack. Purchased sessions are valid for one year.
  • Open-ended work: one Discover Healing article on children says that releasing trapped emotions really never ends.

What do independent practitioners offer?

Practitioners set their own prices and structures. Among practitioners whose websites we checked in September 2026, packages of three, five, six and twelve sessions were common, often at a discount per session. Some offer a Heart-Wall package at a flat price however many sessions it takes. Session length ranges from about twenty minutes to ninety. Our page on what sessions cost has the figures.

A package is a pricing choice, not a clinical recommendation. A discount for buying six sessions tells you nothing about whether you will need six.

Some practitioners' terms are strict. One practitioner's listing states that sessions are nonrefundable; another requires a prepaid three-session package to be used within six weeks; Discover Healing's own staff sessions expire a year after purchase. None of these terms is unusual for a small service business, but they are worth reading before you pay for more than one session at a time.

How to decide how many to have

Because there is no outside measure of when the work is done, it is worth setting your own terms before you begin. This is sensible whatever you believe about the method.

  • Decide what you are hoping for, in your own words, and write it down.
  • Set a budget and a number of sessions after which you will stop and take stock, for example two or three.
  • At that point, ask yourself honestly whether anything has changed that matters to you, and whether it is worth the cost to continue.
  • Prefer paying per session to buying a large package up front, at least until you know whether the practice suits you, and check refund and expiry terms before buying any package.
  • Keep a brief note after each session of how you felt that day and a few days later, so your review is based on more than memory.
  • Notice whether the practitioner respects your decision to stop. A good one will.

When more sessions are not the answer

If you are going back repeatedly because of low mood, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulty or physical symptoms that are not improving, that is a signal to see a doctor or a licensed therapist, not to book more energy sessions. The Emotion Code is not treatment for any condition, and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health advises against using any practice that has not been shown to be effective as a reason to postpone seeing a health care provider. If you are in crisis, call 911, or call or text 988.

Our page on whether the Emotion Code is safe covers the indirect risks, including cost without an end point.

How many sessions would Laura suggest?

Laura Bass is a certified Emotion Code practitioner and a psychotherapist who keeps the two as separate pathways. How she structures Emotion Code sessions, and whether she offers packages, are questions to ask Laura directly. Common questions

Can one Emotion Code session be enough?

Some people have one session, find it interesting or calming, and leave it there. Others have one and notice nothing. Discover Healing's own marketing includes single-session stories, but testimonials are selected and cannot show what caused a change. If you try one session, decide beforehand what would make a second worthwhile, and do not feel obliged to continue.

How far apart should sessions be?

Discover Healing says the body may need a few days to process after a session and suggests practitioners muscle test to estimate when to schedule the next one. In practice, many people book weekly or every couple of weeks, or simply as they feel like it. There is no research basis for any particular spacing, so choose what suits your life and budget.

Why does Heart-Wall work take several sessions?

In Dr. Nelson's model, the Heart-Wall is built of many layers of trapped emotions, released one at a time, so practitioners describe it as taking several sessions; Discover Healing's certification material says two to four is typical. That is the method's own explanation, and the Heart-Wall itself is not established by scientific evidence. Some practitioners charge a flat price for Heart-Wall work however long it takes.

Should I buy a package of sessions?

Only if you already know the practice suits you and the terms are fair. Check whether unused sessions are refundable, whether they expire, and what happens if you miss an appointment; Discover Healing's staff sessions, for example, expire after one year, and missed sessions are forfeited. Paying per session for the first few keeps your options open.

Getting started

Take the next step

The first step is a conversation. You describe what has brought you here, Laura describes how she works, and between you it becomes clearer whether to carry on.

There is no obligation to book anything afterwards, and it is a reasonable thing to do even if you are not sure you want therapy yet.
