How do the three methods differ?
According to Discover Healing, the Emotion Code works with trapped emotions, the Body Code encompasses the Emotion Code and much more, and the Belief Code works alongside both to address what it calls faulty beliefs. The company teaches them in that order. Body Code certification requires completing Emotion Code certification first, and Belief Code certification requires both.
All three share the same foundations. Each relies on muscle testing to ask questions of what the method calls the subconscious, each uses a magnet to release what it identifies, and Discover Healing says each can be practiced at a distance or by proxy. So the evidence questions that apply to one apply to all three, and the mechanism none of them has established is the same: that muscle testing can detect hidden energetic problems and a magnet can clear them.
What is the Emotion Code?
The Emotion Code is the first and simplest of the three. In Dr. Nelson's model, the energy of an emotion that was not fully processed can become trapped in the body. A practitioner uses muscle testing and a chart of emotions to identify one trapped emotion at a time and passes a magnet along the spine or head to release it. The method also describes a Heart-Wall, a layer of trapped emotions said to form around the heart.
Discover Healing describes the Emotion Code as usable on its own. What is the Emotion Code? explains it in full.
What is the Body Code?
Discover Healing describes the Body Code as a patented energy-balancing system intended to help uncover root causes of discomfort, sickness and suffering in body and spirit. It includes the Emotion Code, so trapped emotions and the Heart-Wall are part of it, and then extends much further.
The Body Code is organized as a large mind map of topics that a practitioner works through with muscle testing. Discover Healing's Body Code page groups these into six areas it calls emotional wellness, body system balance, toxin resolution, pathogen resolution, structural balance, and nutrition and lifestyle. When muscle testing points to an imbalance, the system suggests how to release or correct it, often with a magnet and sometimes with other suggestions.
An important caution about the Body Code
Some Body Code categories carry medical-sounding names, such as toxins, pathogens and nutrition. Within the method, these are described as energetic imbalances, not as medical findings. Muscle testing has not been shown to detect infections, toxins, allergies or nutrient deficiencies; blinded studies of those very uses have found results no better than chance. Muscle testing explained summarizes those studies.
So a Body Code session should never be used to decide whether you have an infection, a toxic exposure or a deficiency, or what to do about it. Those questions belong with a doctor and proper testing. Discover Healing's own legal page says its methods are not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any medical condition.
What is the Belief Code?
The Belief Code is the newest and most advanced of the three in Discover Healing's certification path. Discover Healing describes it as a way to remove negative belief systems in the subconscious mind. It defines a belief as a view held by the subconscious that something is true or false, right or wrong, and which acts as a filter on how life is experienced. The method uses an image of a tree, with several layers, to describe how beliefs are structured.
Discover Healing sets out some conditions for it. It says that only subconscious beliefs that conflict with a person's conscious beliefs can be changed energetically, that conscious beliefs can be changed only through conscious effort, and that a person must want to change the belief.
It is worth noticing that psychology has studied beliefs about oneself and the world for a long time. Cognitive therapies, for example, work with unhelpful beliefs directly, through conversation, reflection and practice, and have been tested in many controlled trials. The Belief Code describes the same territory in energetic terms and has not been tested that way.
Which one does Laura practice?
Laura Bass is a certified Emotion Code practitioner. Whether she has trained in or offers the Body Code or the Belief Code is something to ask her directly; this guide does not assume it. The Emotion Code page explains how to get in touch.
Whatever the method, at Laura Bass Counseling it sits on the complementary side of the practice, separate from psychotherapy, and clients choose what to include. None of these methods is offered as a treatment for any physical or mental health condition.
How should you choose between them?
- Start from what you want. If you are curious about the idea of trapped emotions, the Emotion Code is the simplest version. The other two add breadth, not better evidence.
- Be cautious about any method that uses health-sounding categories. Treat a Body Code finding about toxins, pathogens or nutrition as part of the method's language, not as a diagnosis.
- Ask a practitioner which levels they are certified in. Certification is a private credential from Discover Healing, not a license, and it says nothing about medical or mental health training.
- If what you are struggling with is anxiety, depression, trauma, a relationship or a loss, psychotherapy is built for that, and it has been tested. How to choose an Emotion Code practitioner has more questions worth asking.
Common questions
Is the Body Code better than the Emotion Code?
Discover Healing describes the Body Code as broader, since it includes the Emotion Code and adds many more categories. Broader is not the same as better supported. Neither method has been tested in controlled trials, and both rely on muscle testing, which blinded studies have not found to be a reliable detector. The Body Code's health-sounding categories also call for extra caution, because they can be mistaken for medical findings.
Does Laura offer the Body Code or Belief Code?
Laura Bass is a certified Emotion Code practitioner. This guide does not state whether she has trained in or offers the Body Code or the Belief Code, because that has not been confirmed. If you are interested in either, ask her directly through the contact page. She can tell you what she does and does not offer.
Can the Belief Code change what I believe?
Discover Healing says the Belief Code works only on subconscious beliefs that conflict with what you consciously believe, and only if you want to change them; it says conscious beliefs change only through conscious effort. There is no scientific evidence that muscle testing or magnets change beliefs. Changing long-held beliefs about yourself is something cognitive and other psychotherapies work on directly and have tested.
